So not that Epic is over I just have one major question, like what was even the suitors plan? I get the whole marry Penelope but that wouldn’t make them king, right?

I traced out the family tree, Penelope is not a direct or even close relative of her husband, she has no claim to the throne of Ithaca. At most, the suitors would become a prince of Sparta by marrying her, also there is another major issue.

Ithaca already has an heir, Telemachus, the common people probably wouldn’t accept a random guy married to the queen with no direct relation to the royal bloodline as their king when they have the kings son right there. If Telemachus dies and somehow Penelope’s husband gets a claim to the ithican throne, there needs to be a line of succession, and Penelope isn’t young.

At her youngest, she would be late 30’s, although more likely early to mid 40’s, possibly even older. The odds of her having another child at that age would be slim.

This whole plan just seems overly complicated and relies on a lot of unlikely events occurring, they had a much easier (albeit more indirect) path to the throne.

Try to get Telemachus to marry one of their close female relatives, likely a sister or daughter, if she has a son and Telemachus somehow mysteriously dies young, they (as the uncle or grandfather to the infant king) would likely become regent for at least the next 15 or so years. This kind of thing was done all the time throughout history, it would be much quicker, easier, and much more likely to go their way.

Maybe I’m just overthinking this all though, maybe succession and royal claims worked differently in Mycenaean Greece, who knows, maybe at the time their plan made perfect sense.

For a bit of extra context on The Upcoming Thing, I am writing him through the lens of having NPD, and there’s one particular aspect of it that I see get kinda glossed over A LOT (not just regarding King Candy, I mean about NPD in general), so I’m gonna be getting into some nitty-gritties that I feel like people might view as a little “OOC” as compared to what we’ve gotten in canon (which is totally fine ofc, I’m basically working off a headcanon after all (though there is one very specific scene that also kinda got glossed over in the movie which is what extra-convinced me he’d probably have it, but I will get more into that when the chapter is published) and my interpretation of him is in no way gospel, but one of the main comments I’ve gotten doing this fic so far is how people seem to appreciate how “in-character” King Candy feels, so I’m just feeling like I might disappoint a few people in that regard if they don’t vibe with my interpretation for this particular scene coming up, lmao) but it’s something very important to me that I really, really want to touch on, so I’m doing it regardless of what others may think, hopefully people will still enjoy it, but if not, ah well. 😂 It’s my fic at the end of the day, and I’m not gonna change one of the core aspects of what inspired it gfdgcfhvb

(There will be a bit more explanation in the chapter notes, so it’ll be a bit of a “hear me out” lol, but try to bear with me! 😂)

Also I just want to make it VERY clear that this will not be a "King Candy is a terrible person because he has NPD" kind of story, that is the exact opposite of what I am going for, the reason I'm approaching this topic from the angle that I am is because there is a very, very misunderstood mindset towards NPD that I want to get into, and hopefully things will be made more clear when the chapter comes out. It may sound a bit counter-productive, doing the whole "give the villain NPD" headcanon thing, but I hope y'all can trust that my intention is ABSOLUTELY not to demonize, and that you're willing to hear me out about what I mean when the time comes! 🙏

Okay, so. The King of Beasts is a full-on lion, right??? Like Scar is very much depicted as a lion in all of his statues and portraits:

But then we have the Generous Fox (Honest John) and the Good-Natured Cat (Gideon), who are also said to be important figures in the popular children's story of Wish Upon a Star… and Honest John and Gideon are clearly depicted as an anthropomorphic fox and cat, respectively:

And then we have beastmen, who are mostly human but have animalistic traits, namely in the tails and/or ears and horns. We also see these animal traits arising in their behaviors and abilities (such as quick reflexes, enhanced strength and/or speed, sensitivity to smell, etc.):

The beastmen are said to have animal ancestors, which makes sense considering that prominent people like the King of Beasts and other animal figures appear in Twisted Wonderland history; these figures are depicted in artwork, architecture, etc.:

So are we… are we literally witnessing the “evolution” of actual animals to anthros to beastmen through those statues??? 😭 (Twisted Wonderland still of course has actual animals in modern day; beastmen must have diverged and formed a separate group.)

Yeah I get it’s probably supposed to be a beta version of Caramel Arrow Cookie, but the voice sounds different (I’d say a bit deeper/older), and also timeline wise it doesn’t add up. It’s implied that Caramel Arrow is at least a few years younger than Dark Choco, considering he taught her to wield a bow (especially since in this kingdom, they learn to wield weapons at a young age), and Dark Choco was young himself at this time. More likely she’d be a teenager, or even close to Milk’s age in this flashback. But this lady’s clearly an adult. And even if it was a beta version of Caramel Arrow, wouldn’t they have gone and made her look more like Caramel Arrow, or had her name indicate who she is like what they do with Milk Cookie?

I don’t know, it probably doesn’t matter, but it just popped into my head and it’s weird
